Fuel Costs The fuel used by sailing yachts is significantly less than that used by comparative motor yachts. With both engines at 80% power the Silhouette 760 will burn 10 gals per hour and in calm conditions and do about 13 knots. For maximum efficiency only one motor should be used at a time and then the yacht should still do 10 knots.
Dockage Costs Because catamarans are stable they are less influenced by sea state. This enables them to lie comfortably at anchor and escape much of the dockage expenses that motor yachts incur.
Running Costs Sailing vessels do not incur the expense of maintaining large main engines and the array of complex mechanical equipment customarily used on motor vessels.
